The Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH) has also signed the Declaration on Open Science, which was drafted with the participation of several Hungarian professional organizations, including representatives of the ELKH, at the initiative of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH). The declaration summarizes the principles and fields of action of Open Science that best serve the interests and development of Hungarian science.
Open Science is a new approach to scientific communication, based on the principles of transparency and collaboration, and is an innovative way of disseminating the latest research results using modern technological developments and digitalization. Open science means, on one hand, access to the results of significant international research and of Hungarian research previously or currently published in Hungarian and other languages, and, on the other hand, it represents a new approach. Open science allows all actors in the world of science to adopt an open approach, emphasizing cooperation as well as competition, thus strengthening civil society's trust in science.
The purpose of the declaration by the NKFIH is to publish a common position on open science based on professional consensus, in response to the paradigm shift currently taking place in the world of science. Linked to the recommendations of international science policy organizations and to the relevant policy objectives of the European Union, the declaration summarizes the principles and fields of activity of Open Science that best serve the interests and development of Hungarian science. The declaration draws the attention of the domestic scientific community to the importance and timeliness of the new approach, its strategic issues and the increasingly important role of open science in international cooperation.
In line with the recommendations of the European Commission (EC), the European Open Science Cooperation (EOSC), Science Europe and the European University Association (EUA), UNESCO and the International Science Council (ISC), and with the initiatives set out in the Commission's Communication on the European Research Area and the relevant principles of the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, the signatories of the declaration support the promotion of open science practices and call on all stakeholders in the scientific community to sign the declaration.
