Hungarian Research Centre for Linguistics

The mission of the Hungarian Research Centre for Linguistics (NYTK) is to cultivate all areas of Hungarian linguistics and to conduct general, experimental and applied linguistic research.

NYTK’s core research activity focuses on the following areas and research objectives:

  • basic research in language theory and experimental and Hungarian linguistics: language theory, phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics;
  • historical-comparative, language typology, linguistic history basic research and uralistic research;
  • conducting dictionary research, compiling the first comprehensive Hungarian dictionary series (A magyar nyelv nagyszótára) ;
  • corpus linguistics research;
  • social linguistic research, living language and multilingualism research;
  • language and speech technology R&D activities.
