The Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH) Secretariat has announced the call for the Bárány Róbert Award for the third time since 2021. The award recognizes the outstanding scientific achievements of young researchers within ELKH on an international level. Researchers who have not yet reached the age of 40 by December 31, 2023, are eligible to apply for the award.

Dr. Viktória Eszter Zalányi, Secretary General of ELKH emphasized that attracting and retaining young talented researchers is a top priority for the ELKH Secretariat. The aim of the establishment and awarding of the Bárány Róbert Award is to morally and financially recognize the exceptional scientific accomplishments of young researchers under the age of 40 working at research sites under the management of the ELKH Secretariat. Twenty-seven researchers received the award in 2021 and 2022, and an additional nine researchers will be awarded this year. The monetary prize associated with the award has increased from HUF 1 million to HUF 1.5 million in 2023.

The selection of awardees is based not only on their past scientific activities and achievements, but also on their research excellence, innovative approaches to scientific work, potential in research work, and possibilities for advancement. Such criteria include for example participation in significant projects and involvement in international collaborations. In the case of female researchers who are raising children under the age of fourteen, the age criteria and the maximum period of five years from the acquisition of the PhD degree required as a condition are extended by two years per child, up to a total of four years.

The application can be submitted by 4:00 pm on March 31, 2023, through the ELKH electronic application and data reporting system, which requires registration (http://palyazat.elkh.org/).
