Miklós Maróth, President of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network, made the following statement on the election of Tamás Freund as President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences:

“I congratulate Tamás Freund for winning the trust of the members of the General Assembly with his presidential concept developed for the management of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and for being elected as the new President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. I concur with the aspirations of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to define its new place and role in the Hungarian scientific community and to establish trust-based, two-way communication with the government in the area of science for the benefit of Hungarian society as a whole. The tasks of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network coincide with the goals of the new President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to encourage cooperation among members of the domestic and international R&D ecosystem, to support excellence in research and to play a role in educating and promoting researchers in society. Therefore, ELKH considers the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to be a partner in all these endeavors. I hope that the relationship between the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Eötvös Loránd Research Network Secretariat – established by the Hungarian Parliament as an independent budgetary body in August last year to manage the ELKH Research Network –, as well as the entire ELKH Research Network, will continue in the spirit of constructive cooperation.”
