Planetary science or planetology is the interdisciplinary field of astronomy and Earth sciences. The discipline has undergone significant development in recent decades due to observations of space missions. It has been revealed that the surface features of planetary bodies can be compared to those of the Earth, expanding our knowledge and help us to better understand how and why these planetary bodies changed in time. This book provides a systematic overview of the subject and illustrates the emerging scientific questions with numerous examples and photographs. It explores topics such as how a lake behaves when filled with a liquid other than water, the eruption of a volcano below freezing point, whether the atmospheric winds on Venus resemble ocean currents on Earth, the formation of polar ice caps without an atmosphere, and how boulders roll on an asteroid where the conventional notions of up and down are different.
