KRTK Director General Imre Fertő receives Lifetime Research Achievement Award from Agricultural Economics Society for outstanding scientific work

The Agricultural Economics Society (AES) is honoured to present Imre Fertő, the Director General of the ELKH Centre for Economic and Regional Studies (KRTK) with the Award for Excellence for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Research and Contribution to the Society.

Professor Fertő is an eminent international researcher in the field of agricultural economics. He has made significant contributions to our understanding of the impact of market economy transitions and EU accession on agriculture, with particular reference to Hungarian agriculture.

Graduating from the Karl Marx University of Economics in Budapest in 1989, with doctorates from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the University of Newcastle, he has held distinguished positions in Hungary and was awarded the Hungarian Order of Merit in 2020. He is currently the Director General of KRTK and head of the Doctoral School of Management Organizational Science at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Professor Fertő is a prolific writer and publishes regularly in leading journals in the field of agricultural economics including the AES Journal of Agricultural Economics. He is an active member of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) as well as Co-editor of Eurochoices, promoting the AES and EAAE mission to communicate knowledge and understanding in the field of agricultural economics.

As an accomplished speaker, event organizer, and dedicated teacher, he has been a great ambassador in fully involving agricultural economists from eastern Europe in AES events. With quiet but determined persuasion Professor Fertő has been a constant beacon in upholding the values of scientific enquiry and integrity. The AES has been privileged to welcome him since 2001 at the AES conferences and has greatly benefitted from his insights and expertise.
