Eörs Szathmáry has been named president of MTA's new Presidential Committee for Sustainable Development

Tamás Freund asked Eörs Szathmáry, Director General of the Centre for Ecological Research, to head MTA's newly formed Presidential Committee on Sustainable Development. The Commission's goals are to explore the issues threatening technological civilization as we know it, including financial and economical crises, political instability, extending even to great powers, as well as climate change and its consequences.

Forming a comprehensive strategy, setting common goals, as well as employing a multidisciplinary and interactive approach, will ensure the Commission's success. Specialists from various disciplines and professions will work together towards creating solutions to these issues predicted by experts. The commission's tasks will include publishing regular work reports and additionally organizing extended meetings and conferences if necessary.
