ELKH President Balázs Gulyás participates in a visit to leading research institutions in Germany

ELKH President Prof. Dr. Balázs Gulyás, along with Prof. Dr. Gábor Szabó, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Szeged, Executive Director of ELI-ALPS Laser Research Centre and Deputy State Secretary for Innovation, László Bódis participated in a two-day visit in the southwest region of Germany renowned for having the highest innovation capacity among the EU27 countries on 29-30 June 2023, as a member of the delegation led by János Csák, minister responsible for culture and innovation. During the visit to the location of Europe's most densely populated higher education and research institution system, the members of the Hungarian delegation engaged in discussions with institutional and research leaders of top research institutions on topics including research funding models, institutional strategies, and the management of innovation systems. The Hungarian delegation had the opportunity to learn about the ongoing development efforts in the region and present the Hungarian János Neumann Program, including the internationalization efforts of the Hungarian research network.

They visited the Cyber Valley considered Europe's largest research consortium in the field of artificial intelligence and held discussions with research leaders from the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS), an excellence network that brings together the most outstanding researchers. They also met with the director of the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) of the University of Stuttgart, known for its innovative initiatives. The delegation members gained insights into flagship projects conducted with the involvement of Hungarian researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany's largest research university. They had a meeting with Prof. Dr. Michael Kaschke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of KIT and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Hanselka, President of KIT and the newly elected President of the Fraunhofer Society, to discuss the engineering education model and vision of KIT, as well as prominent programs examining the societal acceptance of future technologies.
