A Brain Sciences Workshop was held between the Weizmann Institute of Science, one of the world's leading multidisciplinary basic research institutions and the ELKH Institute for Experimental Medicine (IEM) on 2-3 March 2022. Rony Paz, Dean of the Department of Brain Sciences greeted the Hungarian researchers, led by Zoltán Nusser, the Director of IEM.
As part of the two-day workshop, Hungarian researchers visiting the Weizmann Institute of Science were welcomed by the hosts as the first visiting-researcher event after a two and a half years pandemic-forced break. Within the framework of the programme, ten-ten lectures were given by researchers from the Weizmann Institute of Science and from the Institute of Experimental Medicine. The event was held on the Weizmann Institute of Science campus and attended by approximately seventy researchers in-person and other interested parties online.
The Hungarian researchers participating in the program included László István Acsády, Balázs György Hangya, Erik Hrabovszky, Norbert Hájos, Krisztina Kovács, Judit Katalin Makara, Ferenc Mátyás, Beáta Sperlágh and Balázs Benedek Ujfalussy. The ELKH Secretariat’s Cabinet for International Affairs were represented by Adrienn Szendrey, Deputy-Head and Gabriella Verbovszky, Senior External Relations Adviser.
The parties identified several points of contact that may serve as a basis for future Israeli-Hungarian collaborations in basic brain research.
