The Centre for Ecological Research (ÖK) has two teams engaged in joint projects with several research institutions and universities in Hungary and abroad. Their aim is to provide the scientific background for efficiently combatting new threatening diseases and for the prevention of epidemics. The long-term objective of ÖK is to implement a national program based on the DAMA protocol (Document, Assess, Monitor, Act) developed by ÖK, and to expand it to an international network.
Based on the DAMA protocol researchers can predict the appearance of certain pathogens or their vectors as well as the potential outbreak of an epidemic. Leveraging their experiences in evolutionary ecological research, the scientists will be able to provide information and advice to decision makers and the population with a view to facilitating social cohesion and efficient prevention.
